Four more Sydney nursing home residents die from COVID-19

Four more residents from the same Sydney nursing home have died from coronavirus.

It takes the toll from Anglicare’s Newmarch House aged care facility in Sydney’s west to 11.

The outbreak at the home is believed to have been sparked by a worker who unknowingly infected residents two weeks ago.

The latest deaths take the national toll to 88.

In a statement, Anglicare said it was deeply saddened by the deaths.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to these families for the losses they are experiencing.

“This is a tragic time not only for the families who have lost their loved ones but for other residents and families.

“It is also taking a deep toll on our staff who cared for and knew these residents and families so well.”

As of yesterday, 34 residents and 20 staff members at the facility had tested positive to COVID-19.

Sixty-six staff members have been forced to self-isolate after either testing positive or coming into contact with a known case.
