Fourth man charged over Gold Coast school fire

DETECTIVES have charged a fourth man, following investigations into a major school fire at Tallebudgera last year.

Emergency services were called to a building at the school well ablaze on Tallebudgera Creek Road shortly before 11pm on April 25, 2016.

Following a protracted 19-month investigation, a 20-year-old Mermaid Beach man was charged with two counts of arson on November 28, relating to two fires, one at the school and another at a playground nearby.

On Monday, December 18, a 19-year-old Tallebudgera man was charged with two counts of arson and a 20-year-old Coolangatta man was charged with one count of arson.

Police released a statement last night, confirming a fourth 20-year-old Burleigh Waters man had also now been charged with one count of arson.

He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on January 15, 2018.
