Free Gold Coast bike share scheme arriving in January

Get ready to hire bikes for free across the Gold Coast in the new year.

Around 2000 bikes – some fully equipped with surfboard racks – will be available across Southport, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Varsity Lakes from late January 2018. The system will be run by locally-based transit specialist Transit Australia Group along with partners Mobike and Good Cycles.

The bikes will be available at no cost to ratepayers, and will feature a smart lock system that allows the bike to be unlocked and locked using an app.

Chris Martin, the Head of International for Mobike said he was pleased to be involved in delivering the smart bikeshare service, and hoped it would “improve city residents’ quality of life by providing an affordable means of shared transportation while reducing congestion and air pollution.”
