Free-range eggs recalled over possible faecal matter contamination

A popular brand of free-range, organic eggs have been recalled over fears they may be contaminated with faecal matter.

The Food Standards Australia New Zealand website alerted people to the Sunny Queen Farms Organic Free Range 550g & 590g egg recall on Thursday.

The affected eggs are stamped with the code ACO 131 and have a best before date of 22nd June 2018.

“The recall is due to an isolated event involving the egg cleaning process at a supplier egg grading facility, meaning some eggs may not have been cleaned to the usual required standard,” the recall notice reads.

“The shell of the eggs may be contaminated with faecal matter which may cause illness if consumed.”

The eggs have been available for sale in Coles and Woolworths supermarkets in Queensland only.

People are being urged not to consume the product and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
