French tourist fractures leg on Fraser Island

A backpacker has been airlifted off Fraser Island after a stunt went wrong.

The 31-year-old Frenchman had been taking photographs from the top of his 4WD when he jumped off and landed on wet sand.

He had though the sand would make for a soft landing spot, but instead suffered a suspected fracture to his left leg.

Local Ambulance crews treated the man north of Happy Valley on Tuesday morning before the Bundaberg RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter flew him to the Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
