Gangland boss Tony Mokbel now critical after prison stabbing

UPDATE @ 07.00AM February 12 | DRUG KINGPIN Tony Mokbel is in a critical condition in hospital this morning after he was viciously stabbed inside a Victorian prison.

Paramedics rushed to the 53-year-old’s aid yesterday after he was attacked in the exercise yard.

He was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital by helicopter and was initially in a serious but stable condition.


However, his condition has deteriorated overnight and he is now listed as critical.

Victoria Police said on Tuesday the armed crime squad was investigating but no arrests have been made.

EARLIER @ 04.50PM, February 11 | Notorious Melbourne gangland figure Tony Mokbel is in a serious condition in hosptal after being stabbed in jail.

Paramedics were called to Victoria’s Barwon Prison near Geelong at 3.45pm after Mokbel was stabbed numerous times in the upper body.

There are reports he has received wounds to his face and head.

It’s understood the stabbing took place in a recreational section of the maximum security prison.

He was later airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition.

Mokbel was serving a 30-year sentence for drug trafficking.

He was arrested in Greece in 2007 after fleeing Australia while on bail.
