GC Cabs to maintain language, numeracy training for drivers

Gold Coast cabs insist their drivers will continue to undergo basic assessment of their language, literacy and numeracy skills despite the State Government lowering the requirements for taxi driver training including English language tests.

Gold Coast Cabs Chief Executive Officer Gordana Blazevic said she is disappointed that the State Government has lowered standards across the personalised transport sector to accommodate rideshare.

“The Government could have levelled the playing field by insisting that rideshare drivers meet the same standards expected of taxi drivers, but instead the Government has taken us on a race to the bottom.

“The minister believes that lowering the standards will somehow lead to better service outcomes which is completely nonsensical.”

“While rideshare companies don’t need to provide any training for drivers, Gold Coast Cabs will continue to ensure that our drivers are well trained.”
