The Weather Bureau has cancelled a severe storm warning for the Gold Coast and surrounding areas.
A massive lightning storm and torrential rain swept across the Coast early this morning leaving the usual flash flooding spots under water and putting on an impressive aerial display with countless lightning strikes.
There have been no reports of severe damage or injury, however parts of the M1 were down to a crawl at times with torrents of water washing over the highway.

Heavy rain also battered Logan and Brisbane’s southern suburbs.
The storm moved out to sea around 5:30am and the bureau says the rest of the day should be mainly fine and clear.
Showers are forecast again this afternoon and there’s the chance a storm might reach the coast late in the day.
However the Bureau says it won’t be anything like the one that hit this morning.
