GC offers to host Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s honeymoon

The Gold Coast has officially thrown its hat in the ring, inviting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to honeymoon on the tourist strip.

Acting Mayor Donna Gates announced today that she’ll be writing to Buckingham Palace to invite the royals to holiday here.

She says the Gold Coast provides beautiful natural landscapes as well as luxury.

“There’s the hinterland if they want to go to the beach we have the best beaches in the world,” she said.

“Harry could go sailing, he could climb to the top of Q1, and there’s so much for Meghan to do with the upgrades to Pacific Fair.”

The newly engaged couple will have some tough decisions to make after their wedding, with Israel, Antigua and now the Gold Coast offering to host their honeymoon.

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles will be on the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games and Cr. Gates is looking to leverage that connection to get the young royals on the here.

“I think the games will be the best games ever and that they (Charles and Camilla) will have the most wonderful time here,” she said.

“Hopefully they take home the message that the Gold Coast is the place to be.”
