GC Police disappointed after 29 drivers nabbed in weekend drink-driving blitz

Gold Coast police have expressed their disappointment after 29 drivers were caught drink-driving and 19 busted drug driving during a blitz on the Gold Coast highway over the weekend.

Police from Palm Beach, Road Policing Command, Gold Coast RAP and Roadside Drug Testing Unit were all involved in the operation targeting drivers affected by alcohol and drugs.

Nineteen people were nabbed drug driving while 29 were busted drink-driving with the highest alcohol reading of .166.

Palm Beach Officer in Charge, Acting Senior Sergeant, David Glaister said he was disappointed with the result.

“It seems the message to be responsible on the roads is not getting through to some drivers,” Acting Senior Sergeant Glaister said.

“Every time you drink or drug drive you are increasing the risk of you, your passengers and other road users of being involved in a traffic crash which could result in serious injury or death.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, so I urge all motorists to take care on the roads.”
