EPIC vision has emerged of the ferocious storm that battered the Gold Coast, bringing giant hailstones, destructive winds and torrential rain on Saturday afternoon.

A fast-moving cell lashed the city around 4.00pm, leaving a trail of destruction with downed powerlines cutting power to more than 9000 homes.

Mudgeeraba and Merrimac were the worst affected suburbs for power outages, with more than 2300 homes still in darkness at 5.50pm.
