Teachers broke up the fight and sent the boy to the school nurse.
Despite suffering a deep chest wound, the school failed to call an ambulance to assess the boy.
His family later took him to a doctor who sent him to Gold Coast University Hospital where he was assessed and cleared of serious injuries. They have since expressed concern about why an ambulance wasn’t called immediately to the school to assess the teenager.
A 13-year-old girl who allegedly brought the knife to school will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
The injured teen’s family have also made a formal complaint to police, with the alleged attacker set to face a range of punishment.
