GC600 construction causing traffic chaos for Gold Coast motorists

Construction for the 2016 Gold Coast 600 is well underway in Surfers Paradise with major traffic delays currently being experienced in the area.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the Gold Coast Highway, with traffic at a standstill northbound from Broadbeach to Macintosh Island.

Southbound lanes are also heavily congested.


The major roads affected by the constrution are – Esplanade, Gold Coast Highway, Main Beach Parade, Pacific Street and Rankin Parade.

From today through until Monday 24th October, the Gold Coast Highway near Macintosh Island has been reduced from six lanes to two lanes.


Gold Coast motorists are being warned that delays are expected to get worst at peak times.

In order to avoid getting stuck in traffic, motorists have been advised to travel before 8am or after 6pm.
