GCCC Councillors call on the State Government to help fix the M1

Gold Coast City Councillors are putting the pressure of the Queensland Government to help alleviate some of the pressure on the Coast’s busiest road.

The Council are planning duplication work on a council-controlled road in Pimpama, in an attempt to reduce stress on the M1.

However, Councillor Gates said they need more funds to make the road efficient.

“It’s just time to fix the M1,” she said.

The State is currently negotiating with Federal Government on how to split the costs of fixing the maligned highway.

Gold Coast Councillor Cameron Caldwell says a co-operative approach between the State and Canberra isn’t that hard.

“In relation to Exit 54 some years ago, there was a very strong collaborative approach that was taken between the State and Federal to provide that upgrade,” he said.

“I would like to see the State and Federal Government put politics aside and put the Gold Coast first.”
