German backpacker feared missing in remote Western Australia

A massive land and air search is under way for a German backpacker feared missing in a remote part of Western Australia’s Gascoyne region.

Police say the man had been attempting to complete a 490 kilometre solo trek from Carnarvon to Mount Augustus with very little supplies.

A station hand reprtedly came across the man around 100 kilometres east of Carnarvon on Saturday and noticed he had very little food or water to last him the journey.

The man, described as being aged between 20 and 30 years old, reportedly told the station hand his name was ‘Daniel’.

Police believe he may have left Carnarvon just under a fortnight ago.

A land and air search is now under way.

Police have appealed for information from his friends in Perth – who knew he was doing the walk – or anyone who may have met him during the trek.
