Germany-Holland soccer game called off over bomb threat

A soccer friendly between Germany and Holland has been called off just minutes before it was due to begin, with authorities saying a terror attack was imminent.

Hanover’s chief of police, Volker Kluwe, told German news agency DPA: “We have received concrete information that someone was planning to set off explosives inside the stadium.”

According to some reports there was a truck loaded with explosives and terrorists had disguised it as an ambulance.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and several senior cabinet members had been due to attend the match in Hanover.

There are also reports all tram and railway stations have been closed in the German city as a result.

There is no further information at this stage.
