Giant machine tears down GC hospital

The demolition of the old Gold Coast hospital is well underway with a Giant machine being used to tear down parts of the building today.

The Hitachi EX1200 machine has the highest reach of any machine in the country at 67m and has been assigned to pull down the former hospitals 49m tower.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney said the site has an exciting future.

“We have already received several expressions of interest in the property from leading developers and there is no doubt this site has an exciting future as a vibrant precinct,” Mr Seeney said.

Rosenlund, the company who owns the Hitachi EX1200 says the project is one of the biggest they have ever done.

“This demolition is one of the largest demolition projects we have done in terms of the size and scale of the structure,” Rosenlunds Project Manager Brendan Gray said.

The demolition is due to be completed by late 2015.
