GOLD Coast girl Stephanie Gilmore has been crowned champion of the Roxy Pro, ending her 20-month wait for a world tour event win.
The 26-year-old went on to win the world surfing championship season opener at Snapper Rocks on Tuesday afternoon, proving too strong for South Africa’s Bianca Buitendag.

Gilmore scored 15.80 out of 20 to beat Buitendag and claim her fifth Roxy Pro title at Snapper Rocks.
Her last world title win was in 2012.
Gilmore will now carry the world No. 1 ranking into the second event – the Margaret River Classic in Western Australian from April 2.
