Gilston State School teacher wins special prize thanks to her students

A Gilston State School teacher was overwhelmed with joy this morning when she discovered she had won an Apple MacBook Pro in Domayne Bundall’s Thank a Teacher competition.

Mrs Dimity Faulkner, who has been a teacher for over 30 years, broke down in tears when she was surprised with the news at a full school assembly this morning.

“I feel loved, I feel really, really loved,” she told myGC. “This is unreal. Teachers sometimes aren’t thanked, and that’s why I appreciate this so much.”

“So many people have said thank you. You put your heart and soul into your job and you just don’t know if everyone loves what you do. I am firm, but loving and I try to say that so my students know their guidelines, but I’m glad they love me even though I am firm.”

Mrs Faulkner received the most nominations in the online competition run here on  The reasons she was nominated blew us away.

“As a teacher Dimity is innovative and inspiring my boys just thrived under her instruction. If I had more children (which I do not and will not) but if I did, Dimity would be my pick for their teacher.” – Parent.

“Mrs Faulkner is very good at teaching and she makes it fun by letting us use our iPads and our imagination.” – Student.

“Dimity Faulkner – takes no crap, gets stuff done, keeps it interesting for the kids, not afraid to give parents a gentle clip either, straight talker and always in the kids best interest.” – Parent.

“Dimity Faulkner is one of the best teachers. I had her for grade 1 & 2. She introduced BYOD to our class and our school – very cool.” – Former Student.

While Mrs Faulkner won an Apple Macbook Pro, every student in her Year 2 Class also received 4 Village Roadshow Theme Parks VIP Magic passes giving them unlimited entry to Warner Bros. Movie World, Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast, Paradise Country and Sea World.

“Thank you so much to Domayne Computers for running this competition. My old computer has so had it and I’ve been thinking about buying a new one but now I don’t have to. Thank you!” she said.
