A 10-YEAR-OLD girl is dead and a woman and another child are fighting for their lives in hospital following a horror head-on crash in Melbourne’s west overnight.
It happened on Hopkins Road at Truganina around midnight.
Police said a Ford Territory was overtaking a Honda SUV when it collided head-on with a red Ford Focus carrying a family of four.

Tragically, a 10-year-old girl travelling in the Focus could not be saved and died at the scene.
A woman and a young boy, believed to be the girl’s mother and brother, both sustained life-threatening injuries.
They were treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital where they remain this morning, fighting for life.
Channel Seven reporter Paul Dowsley said it was an “awful scene”.

A man, believed to be the children’s father, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said.
The 41-year-old man driving the Territory was taken to hospital with what police said were “non-life threatening injuries”.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have spent the morning on scene, investigating the circumstances surrounding the horrific crash.
