Girl, 10, snatched off street, dragged into car and indecently assaulted in NSW

POLICE are hunting a man who allegedly snatched a 10-year-old girl off the street, dragged her into his car and indecently assaulted her in the NSW Hunter region.

The abhorrent attack allegedly took place at Karuah, in the Port Stephens area, in early November.

Police say the little girl was walking along Boonara Road in the “late afternoon” when a man with a distinct crescent-shaped birthmark near his left ear allegedly crept up behind her and grabbed her by her shirt.

The man then allegedly dragged the child into a white station wagon that was parked nearby.

When in the vehicle, police allege the man indecently assaulted the 10-year-old before she managed to break free.

Police said the girl was able to escape and run away through a nearby park and into Carlisle Crescent before hiding in a laneway.

As investigations by the Child Abuse Squad in Newcastle continue, detectives are appealing for information from the community to find the child’s alleged attacker.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, about 180cm tall, with a thin build, brown eyes, and scruffy brown hair, described as being a medium-length with an undercut.

The man is described by the child as having a distinct crescent-shaped birthmark on his left cheek near his ear, and a scar on his left hand that runs diagonally along the base of his hand and wrist.

At the time of the incident, the man was allegedly wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans and was sitting in a white station wagon, with black on yellow registration plates.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and noticed something suspicious, recognises the description of the man, or who has information that may assist detectives with their inquiries is urged to come forward.
