Girl, 15, critically injured after car hits tree

A 15-YEAR-OLD girl has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a shocking single-vehicle crash southeast of Melbourne.

Police said the teen was a passenger in a white Mercedes sedan which left Evans Road and smashed into a tree near Knights Road at Longwarry just after 8.30am.

The 15-year-old girl from Garfield sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Longwarry, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Detectives from the Major Collision Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the Mercedes prior to the crash to come forward.
