Girl, 2, critical after being found unconscious on the bank of a river in NSW

A TWO-year-old girl is fighting to stay alive in hospital after she was found unconscious on the bank of a river north-west of Sydney.

The toddler was found unresponsive on the edge of the Hawkesbury River at Hanna Park in North Richmond after a “near drowning” incident around 3pm on Friday.

Police said a witness performed CPR on the little girl before paramedics arrived and took over emergency treatment.

A CareFlight rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but it’s understood the two-year-old was rushed by ambulance to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Police said the toddler remained in a critical condition on Saturday morning.

Officers from the Hawkesbury Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
