Girl allegedly dragged into bush, raped on way home from school

A man has been charged over a sickening attack on a teenage girl, who was allegedly pulled into a bush and raped while on her way home from school.

The terrifying incident happened on Macleay Island just before 4.30pm yesterday, with police alleging the man followed the girl after she got off a bus.

“It is alleged as the girl approached the intersection of Williams and Arthur streets, the man assaulted the girl and forced her into nearby bushland and sexually assaulted her,” Qld Police said.

“When she regained consciousness, the girl resisted the man who ran off in an unknown direction.”

The young girl raised the alarm and a nearby resident came to her aid.

Police later found the man, who is unknown to the teen, hiding in bushland off Cooee Crescent.

The 20-year-old from Russell Island was arrested and has since been charged with one count of rape and one count of disabling in order to commit an indictable offence.

He is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court today.
