Girl dies after being pulled from public swimming pool

A teenage girl has died in a tragic drowning at a public swimming pool in the NSW hunter region.

Emergency crews were called to an aquatic centre on Les Darcy Drive at Maitland around 3.30pm on Friday, following reports a young girl was in trouble in the water.

A 13-year-old girl, yet to be formally identified, was pulled from the pool.

Lifeguards immediately began CPR before paramedics arrived on scene and took over.

The youngster was rushed to John Hunter Hospital, however police confirmed she sadly died a short time later.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

A report will be provided for the information of the coroner.
