Girl survives shark attack in NSW

A 13 YEAR old girl has been attacked by a shark at popular tourist destination on the central coast of New South Wales.

She was surfing at Avoca Beach when the one meter shark attacked at 6:30 AEDT Friday morning.

The girl received puncture wounds to her leg and foot and made her way back to shore where she was treated by bystanders who then drove her to Gosford Hospital.

She is currently in a stable condition.

Gosford City Council has closed Avoca Beach and North Avoca Beach as a result of the attack and lifeguards are patrolling on jet skis on the lookout for sharks but haven’t seen anything yet.

In 2012 a local 28 year old man was attacked at North Avoca Beach, similarly escaping with only a small puncture wound to his forearm and wrist.
