Girl yanked to the ground, punched in the face, robbed in shocking attack

A TEENAGE girl has been yanked to the ground by her hair, punched in the face and robbed in a shocking random unprovoked attack while walking down a street in Townsville.

The 17-year-old girl was walking along Landsborough Street with three friends on Friday night when they were bailed up from behind by a man and a woman around 10.30pm.

The woman allegedly grabbed the teenage victim by her hair, pulled her to the ground and punched her in the face while the man stole her purse.


The girl suffered facial injuries in the attack and was transported to Townsville Hospital for treatment.

The man and woman fled the scene on foot and were last seen running towards Cook Street.

The woman is described as being Aboriginal in appearance and was wearing a dark coloured hoody and light coloured shorts at the time of the attack.

The man is described as also being Aboriginal in appearance, of a slim build with short dark hair. He was also wearing a dark coloured hoody at the time of the attack.

Investigations are continuing.
