G:Link tram crosses Nerang River for first-ever daylight test

THE G:Link tram has this morning completed its first ever day-time run across the Nerang River.

In a major milestone for the Gold Coast light rail project, a yellow tram was spotted leaving Southport and crossing the bridge at around 9:20am.

It travelled into northern Surfers Paradise before heading back towards Southport.

The $1.2 billion system has been testing throughout Southport since September last year, but this is the first time it has ventured this far south during the day.

Goldlinq staff said the tram would continue testing the tracks across the bridge throughout the day.
