GoFundMe page set up for family of Mermaid Beach drowning victim

An online fundraising drive has been launched for the family of a Gold Coast man who drowned while surfing at Mermaid Beach earlier this month.

Father-of-two Simon Wilson tragically lost his life during a morning surf off Cronulla Avenue at Mermaid Beach on August 6.

Critical care paramedics desperately worked to save the 44-year-old, but sadly he could not be revived.

Family friend Kate McFall has set up a Go Fund Me account in an effort to raise money for Simon’s children Ava, 8 and Finn, 4, and his wife Lisa, whom he leaves behind.

“As our hearts break for these two beautiful children and Lisa who is now on her own to raise her babies without her soul mate, we ask you to please give a donation that can be used to help support Ava and Finn during these expensive years of education and after school activities,” the GoFundMe page reads.

“It will be a long road ahead for this family to re-build a new family dynamic and grow into a family of three. All donations big or small are greatly appreciated.”

More than $12,000 has been raised for the family so far. To donate, visit: gofundme.com/f/ava-and-finn-wilson-need-our-love-and-support
