Traffic nightmare as thousands hit the road ahead of Australia Day long weekend

TRAFFIC is slow moving on the Pacific Motorway on the Gold Coast as thousands of motorists hit the road ahead of the Australia Day long weekend.

The exodus has coincided with the usual end-of-work rush, combining to create a traffic nightmare.

Workers heading home to the Gold Coast from Brisbane are in for a long journey, with stop-start conditions extending from the heart of the city all the way south to Nerang.

It’s also heavily congested in both directions in the roadwork zones between Mudgeeraba and Robina.

It comes as thousands of holidaymakers hit the road, looking to escape the city for the long weekend.

The delays have been made worse by several traffic accidents at Pimpama, Nerang and Palm Beach.
