Gold Coast Airport Marathon road closures

GOLD Coasters are being reminded of road closures this weekend due to the 36th Gold Coast Airport Marathon.

The event will be conducted over Saturday and Sunday, with almost 30,000 competitors from 70 different countries expected to participate.

All events will start and finish at the Southport Broadwater Parklands, with the course for Sunday’s marathon extending right down to include The Esplanade at Burleigh Heads.

Motorists are advised to avoid traveling anywhere along the route over the two day event due to diversions that will be in place.

Delays can be expected and motorists are urged to watch out for competitors and fun-runners.

The two-day event will be policed by 100 officers and 200 marshalls to ensure public safety and to minimise disruption to locals.

Each race of the Gold Coast Airport Marathon has an official cut off time in which participants must complete their race so roads can be re-opened to the public in accordance with event permits.
