Workers at Gold Coast Airport are among hundreds around the country set to protest today.
It’s understood baggage handlers, drivers, airline caterers, cleaners, cabin crew, security staff, refuellers, customer service and check-in staff are all calling for more pay and safer working conditions.
The rally is set to kick off at Coolangatta’s main terminal at 11.00am.

“Behind the shiny facades of our airports lies an appalling reality for airport workers. They are kept constantly desperate for more hours and struggle to support their families on low rates,” the Union said in a statement.
“Today they will speak out against deliberate understaffing which causes injuries and poor working conditions which results in a lack of experienced, trained staff.”
The protests are also taking place at airports in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne.
We’re being assured flights won’t be affected, however it’s understood the protests will be noisy which may cause some interruptions.
