Gold Coast bikies want liquor licenses and clubhouses

BIKIES are wanting to apply for liquor licenses and congregate in clubhouses across Queensland, a parliamentary briefing has been told on the Gold Coast.

The motorcycle gangs say the move would make it easier for police to monitor their activities while reducing noise in the suburbs.

But Shadow Attorney General Ian Walker says changing the current laws which allow police to refuse liquor licenses would be a step backward.

“We’ve cleaned all that up, we got rid of them, we’ve seen the back of them,” Mr Walker said.

“South Australia has taken on these laws and Victoria has taken on some of these laws, they are working, so why on earth would you want to wind them back? That is the big question.”
