Gold Coast bowlers selected for Glasgow Commonwealth Games

A YOUNG Lawn Bowls squad has been announced for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The three Gold Coasters, Lynsey Clarke, Brett Wilkie and Nathan Rice are all from Club Helensvale.

Rice, who claimed a Commonwealth Games bronze medal in the pairs eight years ago, is back in the team after missing out in 2010 and 2012.

“I’m over the moon,” Rice said. “It’s been so long leading up to it.”

“I put a lot of work into it. I just really wanted to get to these commonwealth games because you never know, it could be your last.

“I’m just so fortunate, I never thought when I first started playing bowls that this was going to happen and that I was going to get to play all over the country. The game has changed so much in the last ten years and it’s only going to get bigger and bigger.

“There is so many opportunities now for young people to nearly make a living out of it,” he laughed.
