Gold Coast Cab fire caught on camera

A GOLD Coast Cab driver got a fright when the front end of his taxi caught fire in Helensvale this afternoon.

Flames took hold of the taxi at the end of Discovery Drive, near the intersection with Brisbane Road, shortly after 5pm.

Witnesses said the fire was confined the front of the vehicle, with flames shooting from the engine.

Firefighters were quick to arrive, with the drama having unfolded nearby the Helensvale Fire Station.

Simon Nutton was one of the motorists caught behind the taxi and decided to film the action on his mobile camera.

The incident created only minimal disruptions to busy Friday afternoon traffic as the scene was cleared.

Thankfully, the driver and his elderly female passenger escaped uninjured.
