Gold Coast CEOs to sleepout to combat homelessness

Hundreds of Gold Coast CEOs will swap their cosy boardrooms for cardboard boxes on June 23 to take part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

With nothing but the clothes on their back, a sleeping bag and a piece of cardboard, 243 local leaders will experience a night of sleeping rough in the grounds of CBUS Super Stadium to raise much needed funds to help combat homelessness.

Topping the leaderboard in fundraising efforts so far is Village Roadshow Theme Parks CEO Clark Kirby, who has already raised over $70,000 for the cause.

Chatting to Hot Tomato’s Galey, Emily Jade & Christo on Tuesday morning, Mr Kirby said the economic downturn over the last 12 months has seen many people, including young children, sleeping rough for the first time ever.

“The rental crisis is really gripping the whole of the Gold Coast so this year’s funds will go directly to creating some affordable housing for people in need,” he said.

“Last year the whole of the Gold Coast raised $650,000, so we are hoping to beat that this year.

“It’s so wonderful to see the support for this cause on the Gold Coast so far, both from the CEOs involved as well as people reaching out and digging into their own pockets to donate.”
