Gold Coast-based charity, Save Lives Donate Organs (SLDO) is hosting its second annual Cocktail Gala Fundraiser on Friday 4th September at RACV Royal Pines Resort to raise awareness for organ donation.
The event will mark a year since the charity officially launched in 2014, celebrating the achievements of the organisation over the past twelve months – including a tour to educate Gold Coast primary school students on the importance of organ donation, and a Winter Warmer dialysis project.
President and founder of SLDO, Brett Bullock, said the charity’s message was beginning to hit home among the Gold Coast community.

“This year, SLDO reached over 3,000 local school students, and hundreds of patients across Gold Coast public hospitals who are on dialysis,” said Mr Bullock. “Our message is clear – become an organ donor and have the conversation that saves lives.”
Mr Bullock, 28, suffered chronic renal failure in his early 20s and underwent a kidney transplant, and is now back on the organ transplant waitlist, undergoing dialysis.
“Our organisation also supports local individuals and families going through the organ donation or transplant process.
“We will be announcing a special donation at our upcoming event that will go a long way to supporting a young Gold Coast girl who is facing a tough battle on the transplant wait list.”
Demi Lee Pye is living with kidney disease, and has vowed to walk the Great Wall of China before returning to the Gold Coast to undertake treatment.
“It promises to be an inspiring evening, and one that we hope people will remember for years to come. Importantly, we hope it will also drill home the importance of becoming a registered organ donor to save lives like Demi’s and mine,” added Mr Bullock.
A Golf Day will kick off proceedings, with 9-Hole Ambrose commencing at 2pm at the Royal Pines Golf Course. Teams of four or individuals are welcome to register.
