Gold Coasters are being urged to keep a close eye on their friends and family today, with scorching hot, smokey conditions gripping the region.
A thick smoke haze is lingering across the city due to the bushfires burning in South East Queensland and NSW.
It’s’ sent the air quality rating for the Gold Coast plummeting to an ‘unhealthy’ level.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services is urging residents to close their windows and doors to keep the smoke out.
Motorists are also being told to drive with caution, with the smoke impacting visibility.
A severe fire danger remains in place for the city today, with more than 40 blazes burning across the Queensland, including here at Stapylton.
The Staypylton blaze is burning in accessible vegetation in the vicinity of Rossmanns Road, Burnside Road and Quarry Road.
“This fire is burning safely within containment lines and is posing no threat to property at this time,” QFES said.
“Rossmanns Road is now open to traffic.”
The smoke is expected to stick around until tomorrow, with a south easterly change expected this afternoon.
