Gold Coast comes out of storms unscathed

Gold Coast residents were narrowly missed by last night’s wild weather, which left nearly 10,000 homes without power in and around Brisbane.

The hardest hit areas were on Brisbane’s southside, with the roof ripped off a house in Rochedale South and a number of homes damaged in Acacia Ridge.

It is believed at least 12 homes were damaged by the weather.

Forecasters say the winds reached around 50 kilometres an hour nearby Archefield Airport.

South East Queensland was issued a weather warning late yesterday afternoon, which was cancelled around 7pm.

The SES says they won’t be able to know the extent of the damage until later this morning.
