A GOLD COAST cop accused of laying a fake charge on the girlfriend of a man at the centre of a Surfers Paradise shooting has had charges against him dropped.
Jason John Ricardo was due to face a committal hearing at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with abuse of office powers.
However, crown prosecutor Danny Boyle told the court the prosecution would offer no evidence in respect of the case.

Magistrate Ray Rinaudo dismissed the charge.
Mr Ricardo was charged after Kylie Cunnington complained to Queensland’s crime and corruption watchdog.
She was the girlfriend of Rick El-Masri who was arrested over the sniper-style shooting of an innocent pedestrian in Surfers Paradise.
El-Masri was later acquitted of all charges.
Mr Riccardo was stood down from all duties as the court case progressed. It’s unclear whether he will make a bid to return to the job.
It’s unclear whether he will return to detective duties.
