2018 Sand Safari Arts Festival
There is no better way to spend February than at the 2018 Sand Safari Arts Festival at one of Australia’s most iconic beaches, Surfers Paradise.
Over 17 days from 9-25 February, the sands and streets of Surfers Paradise will come alive in a celebration of sand, sea and sport inspired art.
Don’t forget to register now and you can help the Gold Coast break the Guinness World Record for the most sandcastles built in an hour in Surfers Paradise on Feb 18! Details here!
The popular free event features the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships, drawing thousands of spectators to admire some of Australia’s and the world’s most talented sculptors, as they intricately carve life-sized masterpieces over the course of the weekend. Watch as mermaids and mythical creatures line the foreshore with each sculpture encapsultating a different sporting theme.
Sea creatures will return again in the form of gigantic inflatable art scattered throughout the precinct, as well as other spectacular art forms that are brand new to the Sand Safari Arts Festival. Our interactive sculpture is bigger and better this year, promising to gratify multiple senses. Keep checking our website for updates and find out who will be joining us on the foreshore. Will it be Neptune? You will have to wait and see!
Don’t miss your chance to meet our Surfers Paradise resident mermaid Sandy who will be hosting live book readings of the brand new Sand Safari book. Book readings will take place at Neptune’s Throne, a beautiful sculpture being created by artist Natasha Kamienskaia for its unveiling on Sunday 11 February.
Can’t get enough of Sand Safari? Have a safari of your own with Sand Trail, which sees the art of sand sculpting extend beyond Surfers Paradise throughout local libraries, hotels, shopping centres and sports centres from 2-25 February. The Sand Trail has been expanded this year to not only include sand sculpt locations, but Mermaid Book Reading and Swim School locations as well. Visit the Sand Trail page for more information.
Sand Safari Arts Festival is a wonderful opportunity to rediscover Surfers Paradise, while experiencing the precinct’s retail offerings, restaurants, cafés and family-friendly attractions that form the Gold Coast’s playground. With so much on offer, families can choose to stay at one of the region’s many quality accommodation options, taking advantage of convenient public transport to Sand Safari, or parking is available at Bruce Bishop carpark, located just 500m from the beach.
