The Arts Centre Gold Coast And Camerata Present
52 Strings
52 Strings pairs two astonishing works that bring together The Arts Centre’s 2018 Ensemble-in-Residence, Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, with talented string students and educators from the Gold Coast to create a mass ensemble of 52 strings.
Local players will be invited to play in a rare live performance of Penderecki’s 1960 Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima. This evocative work brings to life the terrifying sounds of war.
The full orchestra will also tackle one of the most glorious and well-loved works of the string orchestra, Vaughan-Williams’s Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.
Camerata- Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra completes the program with music from its Helpmann Award nominated concert, Home.
‘The simply splendid Camerata has gained an impressive record of artistic achievement by being flexible in its repertoire, reinterpreting the classics while embracing the new.‘ Carolyn McDowall, The Culture Concept
