Olivers Ride for the Childrens Ward GCUH
Oliver’s Night Light Charity Ride for the Children’s Ward GCUH 2021
Welcome to our 7th Annual Ride. Hi everyone, we meet in the car park near Maccas at 5pm at The Pines Shopping Centre Elanora and we depart at 5:30pm riding up the GC Highway to Makeri Street Mermaid Beach meeting at The Q-Super Centre 6pm near Maccas. We depart at 6:30pm and ride up the GC Highway through Surfers Paradise to our next meeting point at Harbour Town near Maccas. At 7:30pm we ride up Olsen Avenue to the hospital and circle the main building twice then enter the grounds out the back and ride into the eastern outside courtyard area where we draw the raffles and enjoy a sausage sizzle. Free entry no booking required, everyone is welcome, bring your bike, your pillion and decorate your bikes with some festive season lights. Raffle tickets on sale at each meeting point and at the hospital. Cash and EFTPOS. All types of bikes welcome, sports, cruiser, road, trikes, and scooters.
Bringing a gift is not mandatory as the primary aim of the ride is to have a fun ride, decorate your bike and Helmut and wear something creative so the children looking out the window of their ward on the ground floor at the GCUH can smile as they see all the brightly illuminated bikes and they can hear the rumble of the engines revving as they go past, we have had up to 85 bikes a few times and it really echoes between the buildings.
We are collecting gifts to give to children in hospital especially at Christmas time. Lots of items available at the cheap variety stores for under $5. All gifts must be brand new and unwrapped please, the nurses and staff have asked for educational items like educational books, story books, colouring in books, felt pens, chalk, paper, Lego and large size Lego, Jenga, Uno, action figures, dress up dolls, craft works for the older kids or whatever you think a child would enjoy from birth to 18yo. On the ‘out there’ wish list from business owners would be an i-pad, smart tablet, or laptop for children to share and use over and over.
Cars can follow the ride but cannot enter the hospital grounds and would have to park in the hospital car park or at the nearby The Sharks or in the street near The Games Village, cars should park directly after coming from Mermaid instead of coming to Harbour Town.
