The secret’s out! We’re bringing Broadway to the Gold Coast in 2020 with our first Secret Broadway headliner, Shoshana Bean.
Starring Shoshana Bean
Hosted by Lance Horne
Taking a page from the award-winning book by Jack Viertel, ‘The Secret Life of the American Musical: How Broadway Shows are Built’, Secret Broadway (created by emmy-award winning songwriter and composer Lance Horne) will light up HOTA in a series of unforgettable evenings of musical magic alongside a series of special guests.
We’ve all got a favourite song etched in our memories – from the big opening, to the conditional love song, the ‘I want’ ballad, the triumphant 11 o’clock number. Nothing unlocks the love of theatre like a musical – and Lance and Shoshona are inviting audiences to fall in love with their favourite songs all over again.
In our first Secret Broadway evening, it’s ‘curtain up’ as we celebrate the opening numbers of Broadway in all their glory, from Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’ to I Hope I Get It, and plenty more.
Join Lance, Shoshana and more to be revealed for an evening of exceptional entertainment, only on the Gold Coast.
What Is Secret Broadway?
Created by Lance Horne, the cabaret series Secret Broadway takes a page from the award-winning book ‘The Secret Life of the American Musical: How Broadway Shows are Built’, which explains (and mirrors) the narrative structure of great American musicals – beginning with an overture and closing with a curtain call.
Each evening of entertainment is inspired by a chapter in the book and a type of musical song, for example:
The ‘I Want’ Song
The Wizard and I from Wicked, Wouldn’t It Be Loverly from My Fair Lady
The Conditional Love Song
You and Me (But Mostly Me) from The Book of Mormon, We Can Do It from The Producers
The 11 O’Clock Number (The big finish)
Rose’s Turn from Gypsy, You Can’t Stop the Beat from Hairspray
In this first cabaret evening this Feb, it’s ‘curtains up’ as we celebrate the opening numbers of Broadway in all their glory including classics such as Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’ from Singin’ in the Rain, I Hope I Get It from a Chorus Line.
