Susan began writing during her childhood in Hong Kong. At the age of ten she won an international art competition and was awarded first prize by Dr Seuss, who mentored her for a short time. Susan started writing professionally from the age of twenty, firstly as the author of radio plays for ABC radio national, then as a copy writer for various FM radio stations in Melbourne. In her mid-twenties Susan began writing for fringe theatre and short films then later, began writing scripts for Australian television series. Her first commission was The Flying Doctors and she wrote for a lot of medical and rescue drama series, as well as children’s and teen tv series like Heartbreak High and H20 Just Add Water, which she also developed. Her pilot episode of Wicked Science won an AFI award as well as the People’s Choice Award in New York. Susan also wrote two episodes of the eight hour mini-series Burned Bridge starring Cate Blanchett, and is the second only writer to be granted permission to adapt the play Mary Rose, by the J.M Barrie Foundation, which was commissioned by Melanie Griffith and Antonio Bandarass. Because of her love of art, Susan has also worked in animation both here as well as overseas. Susan has developed and created content for Australian as well as American TV, and her work is now screened in more than twenty countries. In the last decade, Susan spent several years lecturing in screenwriting and film making at the Queensland University of Technology, and during that time was awarded the Dean’s Award for excellence in teaching, as well as the Vice Chancellor’s Award for her contributions to the work of the university. During her time teaching, Susan was published in the United States, contributing a chapter to a book about screenwriting, and directed a documentary for the Queensland State Government, as well as several music videos for a Gold Coast Gothic rock band. Susan has now left teaching to focus full time on writing again, spreading her work across several platforms, mainly TV, an on-line, animated graphic novel and writing novels, exploring fiction as well as non-fiction.
You can view some of her credits on Google.
Susan’s hobbies include Karaoke, reading autobiographies and listening to music.
