SCHOOL KIDS have been urged to spread hygiene tips instead of germs this winter as Gold Coast Health prepares for another dose of post-holiday blues.
Each year, the Gold Coast’s hospitals experience a spike in presentations around a fortnight after the midyear break, with the influx partly attributed to students sharing their holiday coughs and colds in the school yard.
Of greater concern, such winter illness is then taken home and exposed to more vulnerable family members including younger siblings and grandparents.

Gold Coast Health Director of Infectious Diseases Dr John Gerrard will visit the Labrador State School tomorrow to highlight how proactive tips for children can combat a traditional post-holiday spike in hospital presentations.
