Gold Coast high school in lock down as police investigate threats

UPDATE @ 12.30PM: The lockdown at Southport High School has now been lifted.

In an email sent to parents, the school confirmed that all students are safe and now on their lunch break.

“I’d like to thank the teachers and students for the way they handled themselves during the lockdown and I am proud of the professional nature of all those involved.”


The school is expected to provide parents with further information later today while Police are also expected to provide an update.

EARLIER @ 12.00PM: A high school on the Gold Coast has gone into lock down this morning, after receiving threats.

Police were called to Southport High School around 11.15am, to investigate.

A police spokesperson confirmed they were working on verifying the authenticity of an alleged threat, and that there were four crews on scene.

The school sent out the following text to parents at 11.45am:

‘The school is currently in lock down.

‘All students are safe and are being supervised.

‘We will keep you updated with further information as it comes to hand.

‘SSHS,’ the text read.
