Gold Coast hinterland road partially reopens to motorists

Some relief for Gold Coast hinterland residents, with a major road set to partially reopen from this afternoon during set hours.

A section of Beechmont Road fell victim to the March 2022 deluge, with a lane of the road completely slipping down the mountain.

Department of Transport and Main Roads confirmed the good news today, with the road between Bottletree Lane and North Road to reopen with a temporary single-lane side track – but only during specific hours.

It will be open to motorists on weekdays before 8.30am and after 2.30pm.

It will also be open all weekend, with motorists warned of minor delays for roadworks.

The section will have a reduced speed limit of 20 km/h through the single-lane side track, and will be under traffic control.

Trucks and buses accessing the single-lane side track will need to be a gross maximum of 24.5 tonnes, with a six-tonne maximum per axle load, and rigid chassis type only.

“Expect some delays when travelling along Beechmont Road, as workers continue to repair road damage at multiple sites from natural disaster events,” the TMR statement read.

“We would like to thank the Beechmont and Lower Beechmont communities for their patience and support.”
