Gold Coast hit-and-run case faces further delay

A FUGUTIVE, charged over a hit-and-run that claimed the life of a Gold Coast teenager, remains in India after another extradition delay.

24-year-old Puneet Puneet was driving at more than 150 kilometres an hour, when he lost control in Melbourne’s South Bank, and hit two young men in 2008.

19-year-old Dean Hoftsee was killed, his friend seriously injured.

After pleading guilty to culpable driving, Puneet fled to India, but was eventually captured and arrested.

On Wednesday, his lawyer applied for another adjournment of his case in New Delhi, claiming he is still working through the case file.

Australian officials at the hearing accused him outside the court of delaying tactics.
