Gold Coast man charged over alleged abuse at Sydney boys’ home

A Gold Coast man has been charged over the alleged historical abuse of children at a Sydney boys’ home.

New South Wales Police have been investigating alleged cases of abuse at the Daruk Training School at Berkshire Park between 1965 and 1985.

Detectives from Strike Force Eckersley along with Queensland Police today arrested a 73-year-old man on the Gold Coast.

He was taken to Southport Police Station where he was charged with six counts of indecent assault of a male, one count of buggery and one count of assault with intent to commit buggery.

He’s due to face Southport Magistrates Court this afternoon where detectives will apply for his extradition to New South Wales.

The man is the second person to be arrested in Queensland by Strike Force Eckersley.

A 69-year-old man was arrested in Brisbane and February and extradited to New South Wales where he faced court on 19 charges.
